Michigan’s Clean Slate Law went into effect in April of 2023, and caused nearly 850 thousand criminal convictions to be expunged in the state of Michigan. At the risk of background screening providers reporting any of these 850 thousand criminal records in a background report, courts throughout the state had to limit access to court records until each county expunges all applicable records and removes them from any public access areas.

With each county limiting access to court records until they finish complying with the Clean Slate Law, it caused significant delays for county criminal history searches in the state of Michigan.

Below we have provided a list of counties that are still delayed from their work to comply with the Clean Slate Law, along with a list of counties that have finished the project and are not experiencing delays.
